Audition Requirements

In order to evaluate your skills on your instrument and place you in a chamber group and/or the orchestra, please follow the instruction below. All auditions must be video recorded. You will be asked to upload your videos during the application process. Each video file should be no longer than 5 minutes. 

     ► Flute
          College Students: Concerto No. 1 in G major, K. 313 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), Movement 1: Allegro maestoso, and
          a piece of the Paris Conservatory Concours by Henri Busser, Gabriel Faure, Louis Ganne, Phillip Gaubert, Georges Hue, or Paul Taffanel
          Middle/High Schoolers: Two contrasting (slow and fast) movements of a sonata by Georg Friedrich Handel or Johann Sebastian Bach and 
          Minuet from "L'Arlésienne" Suite No. 2 by Georges Bizet or "Sicilienne" Op. 78 by Gabriel Fauré. 

     ► Oboe
         College Students: A movement from a standard concerto or similar solo work and a movement from one of the twelve Telemann Fantasies. 
         Middle/High Schoolers: Two contrasting movements from a solo piece or different solo pieces.

     ► Clarinet
          College Students: A movement of a major concerto or sonata and one contrasting movement or etude.
         Middle/High Schoolers: Two contrasting solo pieces or etudes.

     ► Bassoon
          College Students: A movement of a major concerto or sonata and one contrasting movement or etude.
          Middle/High Schoolers: Two contrasting solo pieces or etudes.

     ► Horn
         College Students: a movement of a major concerto or sonata and one contrasting movement or etude
         Middle/High Schoolers: two contrasting solo pieces or etudes         

     ► Violin
          College Students: A movement of a standard concerto or similar solo work and a movement from the solo sonatas and partitas by J.S. Bach.
          Middle/High Schoolers: Two contrasting solo pieces.

     ► Viola, Cello
          College Students: A movement of a standard concerto or similar solo work and a movement from the solo suites by J.S. Bach.
          Middle/High Schoolers: Two contrasting solo pieces.

     ► Double Bass 
          College Students: Two contrasting solo pieces.
          Middle/High Schoolers: Two contrasting solo pieces.

     ► Harp 
          College Students: One movement of a major concerto, such as Gliere, Rota, Ginastera, or Boildieu, and
                                          one movement of a standard 20th sonata for harp solo, such as Hindemith, Houdy, or Tailleferre.
          Middle/High Schoolers: One etude by Pozzoli or Naderman and one contrasting harp solo.

     ► Piano
          College Students: Prelude and Fugue of J.S.Bach. About 5 minute recording of one movement of a classical sonata (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven).
                                       About 5 minute recording of a third piece in contrasting style (Romantic, Impressionistic, 20th/21st century).
          Middle/High Schoolers:  2- or 3-part Invention of J.S.Bach. About 5 minute recording of one movement of a classical sonata (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven). 
                                       About 5 minute recording of a third piece in contrasting style (Romantic, Impressionistic, 20th/21st century).

Chamber music and orchestra repertoire will be sent electronically (pdf format)  to all participants no later than 14 days before ISMI starts.
